About WCBDO
Women’s Capacity Building and Development Organization (WCBDO) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and humanitarian organization. It was established on March 2, 2010, and registered with the Ministry of Economy under registration number 1609. It is also registered with other relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Department of Youth Affairs, and the Literacy Department of the Ministry of Education.
WCBDO’s main office is in Kabul, and focal points are working in Paktia, Urozgan, Kandahar, Helmand, Nimroz, Kapisa, Jalalabad, Kunduz, Samangan, Balkh, and Bamiyan.
WCBDO focuses on defending women’s rights and enhancing their capacities. It emphasizes poverty reduction, youth and child empowerment, human rights, social inclusion, and creating a society where everyone lives with respect and dignity.
WCBDO has partnered with UNICEF, War Child Canada, AAWA, Counterpart-USAID, TOYO-Colombo Plan, UNAMA, and UN-WOMEN. It has also gained membership in the Afghanistan Education Cluster, such as the Education in Emergency (EiE) Working Group, the Afghanistan Cash and Voucher Working Group (CVWG), the Education Infrastructure Technical and Working Group (EITWG), the Education Defender Network (EDN), and the Afghan Women’s Network (AWN). Meanwhile, WCBDO plans to obtain membership in ACBAR, ES/NFI, FSAC, Health, Nutrition, GBV, and WASH clusters in 2025.
WCBDO has also created a Youth Committee to address the challenges faced by girls deprived of education and rights. Through a series of steps, these girls are introduced to seminars aimed at empowering them. WCBDO also manages social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube channels for outreach and awareness.
On the international front, WCBDO has introduced women and girls to the Alliance for International Women’s Rights, a US-based organization offering English mentorship classes. Initially, WCBDO connected literacy course teachers and staff to this opportunity and has been actively advocating for more women to benefit from it.
Vision:
WCBDO’s vision is to cultivate an environment where every woman and girl is empowered to reach her fullest potential. We aspire to build communities where human rights and gender equality are universally upheld, and women are recognized as leaders and change-makers, living lives of dignity, prosperity, and opportunity.
Mission:
WCBDO’s mission is steadfast in its commitment to empowering youth, women, and girls through education, capacity building, skills development, advocacy, and the promotion of human rights and gender equality. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that creates equal opportunities, enhances economic independence, and champions women, peace, and security. Our focus is on supporting leadership and participation across all sectors of life. By providing access to essential resources, information, training opportunities, and support, we aim to dismantle barriers and enable women and girls to realize their full potential. In doing so, we strive to contribute to the social, economic, and cultural development of their communities.
