Report on the Commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

On 26 June 2016, the Women’s Capacity Building and Development Organization (WCBDO), with the financial support of the esteemed organization TOYO, organized a large and vibrant event in Kabul to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The program aimed to raise public awareness—particularly among the younger generation—about the devastating consequences of drug addiction, while encouraging them to pursue healthy lifestyles and engage in positive social and sports activities.

The main feature of the event was a volleyball competition between the teams of Mahmood Tarzi High School and Esteqlal High School. This exciting match, followed with great enthusiasm by students, teachers, families, and fans, concluded with Mahmood Tarzi High School securing victory after a spirited and energetic game. WCBDO expressed its appreciation for the dedication and effort of both teams and extended heartfelt wishes for their continued success.

In addition to the volleyball competition, other athletic performances such as gymnastics and kung fu were showcased, reflecting the strength, talent, and vibrant energy of Afghan youth. These activities not only created a joyful and uplifting atmosphere for participants but also conveyed a clear and powerful message to society:

“Stay away from drugs, live a healthy life.”

The event demonstrated that sports and healthy activities can serve as effective alternatives to prevent young people from turning to drugs. The enthusiastic participation of youth and the warm reception from the public highlighted the community’s strong capacity and interest in promoting a culture of resistance against drug abuse.

By commemorating this day, WCBDO reaffirms its commitment to empowering young people, strengthening the culture of healthy living, and fighting against drug abuse. The organization remains dedicated to continuing such initiatives in collaboration with partner institutions, especially with the valued support of TOYO, to advance awareness, education, and opportunities for Afghan youth in the future.
